Description

The first volume of Jacob Boehme's groundbreaking treatise of Christian mysticism is filled with insights about the Biblical canon and the acts of God which befell humanity during the Book of Genesis.

Boehme intersperses his spiritual investigations with philosophical reflections. How evil can be born out of something sublimely good, and how God views and addresses the various sins of humanity, are topics of great concern to Boehme. The various behaviors of God, such as his casting out of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, and His instilling of disease and calamity upon the Earth, are thoughtfully discussed.

Writing in the seventeenth century, Jacob Boehme was an early scholar of Christianity, who sought to fully comprehend the message of the Holy Bible. Born in Poland and educated in Germany, he would become renowned as a representative of the Lutheran tradition. The term "Mysterium Magnum" is Latin for "great mystery"; it is the aspects of the Bible Boehme views as mysterious or unexplained that warrant his investigations.

This edition contains the original translation to English by John Sparrow, plus his notes. Also reproduced are the table and frontispiece of the original printing of 1623, together with the author's original notes which are appended at the close of each chapter. This allows the reader an authentic experience, allowing insight and discovery to better be gained from this deep and studious text.
